Introduction

Billy Bounce are a UK-based children's playground safety surfacing company, installing Wet Pour, Rubber Mulch, MUGAs, and Enviro-Pave surfaces for schools, local authorities, and contractors across the UK and in 16 countries worldwide. With more than 30 years in the industry and over 15,000 play areas installed, the brand needed a platform that reflected the scale of the operation and a bold visual identity that could speak to both procurement buyers and the wider play sector.

Challenge

A 30-year track record in playground safety surfacing, across five distinct surface types and a client list that includes Manchester City, Great Ormond Street Hospital, the BBC, and Manchester United, but no digital presence that did it justice. The site needed to serve two audiences at once: the serious procurement buyer who needs specifications, accreditations, and credible references, and the play sector audience drawn to a brand with genuine personality.

Solution

Working with the client's established brand identity and mascot, the build brings the Billy Bounce character into every section of a technically comprehensive WordPress site. Five surface types each have their own product area, a gallery filters by surface type, and a Technical Information section uses accordions to put specification detail in front of buyers who need it without getting in the way of those who don't. Named client logos, a values section, and a testimonials carousel carry the credibility case throughout.

Design Psychology

Here’s every bias and principle deliberately applied across the site.

Authority Bias

“Specialists in Children’s Safety Surfacing Across the World Since 1993” is the opening line of the homepage. Thirty years of trading, 15,000+ play areas, and installations in 16 countries set the frame before a procurement buyer has read a word of product copy.

Von Restorff Effect

Manchester United, Great Ormond Street Hospital, BBC, ITV. In a sector of local playground contractors, these clients are the anomalies, the names that don’t fit. They appear in the customer logo section early enough to do their credibility work before the visitor reaches the product detail.

Social Proof

A testimonial carousel featuring named contacts from recognisable organisations, alongside the client logo bar, means a procurement buyer or school decision-maker is seeing the experience of people like them before committing to an enquiry.

Hick's Law

Five surface types (Wet Pour, Rubber Mulch, MUGAs, Daily Mile, Enviro-Pave) organised as distinct navigation entry points. Buyers who know what surface they need arrive at the right product area immediately, without navigating a flat product list.

Progressive Disclosure

The Technical Information section holds specification data, depth and area size guides, and sub-base requirements behind accordion panels. Buyers who need that detail can find it without it cluttering the experience for those still forming a view.

Progressive Disclosure

Anchoring Bias

5,000 tonnes of recycled rubber processed annually, 15,000+ play areas installed, 16 countries. These figures appear in context sections before any product detail, establishing the scale of the operation as the frame through which every subsequent claim is assessed.
