Quick Overview

  • Small clarity issues can quietly reduce enquiries
  • Simple checks can improve trust, usability, and decision-making
  • You donโ€™t always need a full redesign to see improvements
  • Useful if you want quick, practical wins on your existing site

As a busy business owner, your website needs to perform – but your time is limited. Most websites donโ€™t fail because of obvious problems. They quietly underperform, losing enquiries and opportunities that never reach your inbox.

Instead of spending hours on a complex audit, you need a quick, reliable way to see where performance is breaking down. This isnโ€™t about emergency fixes or cosmetic tweaks. Itโ€™s about spotting the specific points where friction, confusion, or delay stop people from taking action – and addressing the issues that directly limit results.

The Conversion Formula: How B = MAP Drives Conversions

Every conversion on your website is a behaviour. And behaviour doesnโ€™t happen by accident.

The Fogg Behavior Model explains why users act (or donโ€™t). It states that a behaviour (B) only occurs when Motivation (M), Ability (A), and a Prompt (P) are present at the same moment, above a certain threshold.

If even one of these elements is weak, behaviour breaks down.

B = M A P
Motivation (M) The visitorโ€™s desire to solve a problem or achieve an outcome.
Ability (A) How easy it is to take action. Fewer steps, clearer paths, less effort.
Prompt (P) The clear signal that tells the user exactly what to do next.

In practice, most websites fail on Ability or Prompt, not motivation. This quick diagnostic helps you look at your site through that same behaviour-focused lens and identify where action is being blocked.

Check 1: Mobile Speed & Ability (90 Seconds)

The Opportunity

Over half of visitors will view your site on a phone. If the mobile experience is slow or awkward, users lose Ability before theyโ€™ve even understood your offer – and many wonโ€™t wait.

Your Diagnostic Action

Trigger: Put yourself in the position of a potential client who just landed on your website.

Action: Open your site on your phone and run the homepage through Googleโ€™s PageSpeed Insights (free). Note the mobile score. Then use your main navigation. Do you need to zoom, pinch, or concentrate to tap links?

The Verdict

If your mobile score is poor (below 50), or basic navigation feels effortful, your site is limiting Ability (A) at the very first step. Clear messaging canโ€™t compensate for that.

Insight: PageSpeed scores are simulated, but consistently low mobile performance usually points to technical inefficiencies or outdated code. Improving this reduces friction across the site and supports every other activity that depends on it.

Check 2: UX Friction & Prompts (90 Seconds)

The Opportunity

Your call-to-action is the moment behaviour either happens (or fails). Every unnecessary click, hesitation, or unclear instruction suppresses action.

Your Diagnostic Action

Trigger: Imagine youโ€™ve been referred to your business and want to make contact quickly.

Action: Start on your homepage and trace the path to your primary CTA. Did you hesitate? Did you need more than three clicks? Once you reached the form, was the confirmation message clear and reassuring?

The Verdict

Hesitation is friction. This check shows where the journey breaks down on Ability (A) (too many steps or effort) or Prompt (P) (unclear or weak direction). These are the points where users pause, second-guess, or leave.

Insight: Across audits, small changes – clearer labels, fewer required fields, stronger confirmation messaging – often produce immediate lifts in qualified enquiries. Reducing effort is one of the fastest ways to improve conversions.

Check 3: Messaging & Motivation (2 Minutes)

The Opportunity

Visitors decide within seconds whether a website is relevant. If your message isnโ€™t immediately clear, they leave – regardless of how good your service is.

Your Diagnostic Action

Trigger: Identify someone unfamiliar with your industry.

Action: Ask that unbiased person (a friend or family member) to look at your homepage for five seconds, then look away. Now, ask them these three questions:

  1. “What does this company sell?”
  2. “How does it help me?”
  3. “What should I do next?”

The Verdict

If they canโ€™t answer all three clearly, your site is failing on Motivation (M) and Prompt (P). Your value isnโ€™t landing fast enough to keep users engaged. Strategic web design ensures your core value is communicated instantly.

Insight: Clarity builds authority. A benefit-led headline that immediately answers โ€œWhatโ€™s in it for me?โ€ consistently reduces bounce rates and increases qualified leads.

Your 5-Minute Strategic Check-Up is Complete

In under five minutes, youโ€™ve identified where behaviour may be breaking down on your site.

If these checks revealed friction (slow mobile performance, a confusing journey, or unclear messaging), thatโ€™s valuable information.ย These are often the areas where focused improvements have the most impact on enquiries and overall site performance.

Ready to Go Deeper? A Professional Audit

This 5-minute check highlights symptoms. A Website Performance Audit looks more closely at whatโ€™s happening beneath the surface – reviewing site structure, user journeys, and conversion paths to understand where action is being blocked.

It produces a clear set of priorities rather than a long list of recommendations, helping you focus on the changes most likely to improve performance.

If youโ€™d like to sense-check things further, you can request a free website audit. This goes beyond the quick check and looks at how people actually move through your site, where hesitation occurs, and what may be limiting enquiries.

Thereโ€™s no obligation. Itโ€™s simply a way to understand whether your website is working as deliberately as it should.
